Feel good story for the day... 18lb American Lobster saved from the dinner plate!

Found this story via Twitter and thought I would share it. Caught off the eastern coast of Canada, this 18lb American Lobster was purchased from a sea food distributor in San Francisco, preventing it's consumption and giving it a new lease of life at the New York Aquarium, photo courtesy of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

"When we saw that ad for an 18lb American Lobster, we knew we had to have it!" explains Jon Forrest Dohlin, WCS Vice President and Director of the NY Aquarium. "He's a magnificent creature that has been delighting our guests since his arrival" he adds.

Although a very large specimen, the American Lobster, the largest crustacean on the planet, gets bigger, with recorded specimens as large as 44lbs!!! Based on it's size and weight, experts say the new addition to the NY Aquarium is approximately 75 years Old, with the record breaking 44lb specimen estimated at an age of around 180 years. I certainly wouldn't want to get my fingers close to that guy!!!
