Amazon Watch call to stop construction of the Belo Monte Dam in the Amazon Rainforest.

One of the worlds most prized rainforest's is the Amazon, known as one of the Natural Seven Wonders of the World, not a day goes by with out some greed driven corporation, or narrow minded group appearing in some form of news in regards to their intended destruction of, what can only be described as, the most important forest on Earth.

Spanning a massive 1.4 billion acres, and expanding over no less than 9 countries, the Amazon Jungle is home to over 2.7 million different living species of flora and fauna, as well as home to numerous indigenous tribes people. The proposal in place is to build an 11.2 megawatt dam installation across the Xingu River, in protected areas of the state of Para, Brasil, making it the second largest hydro-electric dam in the world.

Led by Amazon Watch, the people of Brasil have already delivered over half a million signatures to the Brasilian administration, but plans are still continuing to go ahead, with construction progress already in place to start the full scale development of the 'monster' dam. You can help support the native people of the Amazon, and the cause to prevent the destruction of even more natural rain forest through clearing and flooding by signing the petition, and donating to the Amazon Watch cause..
